Greening the Career Fair and Volunteer Expo
PowerSave Green Campus (PSGC) helped the Career Center "green" their annual Career Fair and Volunteer Expo. PSGC sent out a Green Employer Surveys to all the businesses that would be attending the expo. All businesses and employers that filled out the survey and qualified as "green" employers received a green leaf at the expo to proudly display at their booth. Similarly, all students who attended the expo could get a button with a green leaf from the PSGC table so that employers could identify students who are interested in green jobs. This was a great way for students to see what green jobs are available in our county as well as the United States. The expo was on February 24th 2013 from 10am-2pm.

Greening the Career Fair
On February 18th, 2012 PowerSave Green Campus (PSGC) participated in the annual Career Expo and Volunteer Fair. There were 48 participating employers and 40 non-profit organizations in attendance at the event. PSGC worked with the Career Center to survey all of the participating organizations before the event to see which offered greed jobs or had green practices in the workplace. We complied a list of 25 organizations that qualified into one or both of these categories.
Two different ribbons were made to differentiate between the two categories which were placed on the booths of participating organizations. The first category had a green ribbon with a leaf, which meant that the organization was offering green jobs. The second category, the organizations with green business practices, received a plain green ribbon. PSGC had a booth on the volunteer side of the event where we handed out fliers and informed students about the ribbons and what they meant. We also held a raffle to win a free PSGC t-shirt!
Both the employers and the students were excited about having green jobs and green practices recognized. Some employers who missed the survey sought us out to find out how they too could have a green ribbon placed on their table. This was a unique way to help students find green jobs. Upon spotting a green ribbon, students were able to direct their attention to an environmentally friendly organization and find out how they could become involved. It was a great opportunity for them to take that first step to joining the emerging green workforce.
