KHSU featured Green Campus during morning news programming to say a few words about the last Power Down HSU day of the fall semester! Listen to KHSU Diverse Public Radio on FM radio 90.5 in Eureka/Arcata or through their online live stream.
"The last Power Down HSU event of the semester is happening today on the Humboldt State University campus.Green Campus encourages all members of the HSU community to make a special effort to conserve electricity on-campus between 8am-5pm; for example, by turning off lights when you leave a room, turning off your computer monitor when you finish using it, and unplugging chargers from the wall once your electronics are 100% charged. Green Campus will then compile and analyze the energy data to determine our campuswide energy savings. For more information find Green Campus on Instagram @greencampus_hsu and online at greencampushsu.weebly.com, or email the team at [email protected]!" |

Green Campus led a succulent-planting workshop during Tinker Time on Friday during WRRAP's annual Zero Waste Conference! Hensel's Ace Hardware in Arcata donated a bag of cactus soil, CCAT contributed succulent clippings from their grounds, and Green Campus club members collected containers to repurpose into unconventional pots. Thanks to everyone who participated in Tinker Time on the quad!

Our team lead Morgan Kipf, data analyst Megan Moore, and outreach coordinator Abigail Lowell ate lunch with and presented to the HSU Board of Directors and HSU president Lisa Rossbacher on their ongoing work with Green Campus. We really appreciate the Board's interest in and attentive questions about our work, as well as the opportunities we've been afforded with Green Campus. The Board raised the GoGreen Fund to pay student university employees to do work in sustainability on-campus, so our work would not be possible without their efforts! Academic Infusion Project: Jenn Tarlton's Graphics ClassThe purpose of a water conservation sticker is to instill long-lasting water conservation behaviors for any one who washes their hands at a campus sink. The stickers will be designed by the Graphics class for their Agency project, raising awareness to the students in class and helping to promote water conservation. These stickers will eventually be included in the customized tool kits given to Green Workplace Assessment Certified offices as a pilot sticker, and we will assess the effectiveness with a survey after one semester.
|
Cold Water Campaign Signs were also designed by the Graphics class to place in the laundry rooms in the Residence Halls on campus. The purpose of the signs is to raise awareness to any one doing their laundry on campus, teaching them how to sustainably wash their clothes using the cold water settings, drying clothes in the sunlight, etc. All on-campus housing beginning in Fall 2013 will consist of Freshman residents, with the exception of one building. For many incoming freshman, these signs will be a helpful guide, teaching them how to wash their clothes sustainably for years to come.

Spring and Fall 2009
August 24, 2008
Green Campus HSU was at every single HOP (Humboldt Orientation Program) during the summer of 2008 thanks to Kale, Jamila, and Sarah. The PCs were there to educate incoming students on the importance of energy efficiency in the fight against anthropogenic climate change and the need for our university to cut costs. Kale, Jamila, and Sarah spoke with dozens of incoming students and their families over the course of six HOP tabling events, and explained how energy efficiency is an easy and effective way for all of us to decrease our personal carbon footprints as well as the carbon footprint of the university community.
Sarah is seen holding the "Phantom Load" interactive display that was built during spring semester of 2008 by Natural Resource Interpretation students at HSU. The display explains the concept of phantom loads - many appliances and devices in our homes, classrooms, offices, and businesses drain electricity (and money) even when they are off. |
