Campus Conservation Nationals (CCN)
PowerSave Green Campus (PSGC) teamed up with the Energy and Environment Council (EEC) and HSU Housing to participate in the second annual CCN competition. CCN is the first nationwide electricity and water reduction competition on college and university campuses. CCN gives a common voice and motivation to thousands of students, all working together to reduce consumption and mitigate the impacts of climate change. You can access HSU's dashboard and more information about the competition by going to www.competetoreduce.org.
From February 6th-26th, participating colleges and universities competed to achieve the greatest possible energy and water reductions in residence halls. All of the residence halls (except Campus Apartments) on HSU campus competed to see who could reduce the most energy and water usage between those weeks. HSU placed 4th nationwide with a 2.2% reduction from our baseline and we saved 11,658 kWh! In our local competition at HSU, Shasta and Madrone tied for first place with a 3.8% reduction, Redwood Hall won second place with a 2.6% reduction, and Trinity pulled in at third place with a 2.2% reduction!
To reward the winners, PSGC and EEC held an ice cream party for all the residents of the winning halls and gave away gift cards to local shops.
