Tips to Conserve Energy
- Turn off the lights when you leave a room - Allow natural light into the room by opening curtains when it's warm & light out (close them when it's cold & dark to keep the heat in) - Use shear curtains to allow natural light into a room and still keep it insulated - When fully charged, remove electronics from chargers (your electronic's battery life will also benefit, according to Battery University) - Unplug chargers and appliances from electrical outlets when you finish using them to reduce "phantom loads" - Turn off your computer monitor, and shut down or put to sleep your computer when you finish using it - Use LED light bulbs instead of CFL or incandescent bulbs - Use fewer light bulbs, for example a lamp instead of overhead lights (keep in mind that a single light switch may turn on multiple light bulbs) - Spend more time outside - Close doors, windows, and curtains to keep rooms insulated - Use space heaters sparingly - Wear layers to keep warm - Keep heating & cooling vents clear Image source: Viribright Lighting Inc.

- Turn off the tap when you're brushing your teeth - Turn off the tap when you're washing your hands - Take shorter showers, and be mindful of how long you spend in the shower; make a playlist of 3-5 songs and when it's done playing, it's time to get out! - Take fewer showers - Turn off faucets all the way to prevent dripping - Report leaks to Housing staff ASAP - Water a plant with unwanted drinking water or leftover cooking water instead of pouring it down the drain - Use less electricity - water is often used as a coolant at power plants! - Water outdoor plants in the early morning |
