Only turn on lights in rooms that are currently in use - switch off bathroom, copy room, and kitchen lights when not in use.

If your building has good natural lighting, consider using integrating day lighting with the light fixtures.

Office Appliances
- Turn off and unplug electronics when not in use.
- Turn off computers and power strips overnight.
- Use rechargeable batteries! *We recommend Sanyo NiHM Eneloop (Here's Why...)
- Always use power save settings on printers, fax machines and copiers.
- Unplug chargers when not in use.
- Use a multifunction and energy-efficient office appliances.
Paper Waste
- Keep one-sided printed sheets for scratch paper around the office.
- If your printer can't handle 100% recycled paper, contact us about TreeFrog paper!
- Keep a paper recycling bin next to every trash can.
- Activate automatic double-sided printing settings on printers.
- Send digitalized files and documents instead of printing - go paperless!
Heating and Cooling Systems (HVAC)
- Keep the thermostat between 68 °F and 72°F at all times.
- Do not block air vents.
Community
- Bike, walk, carpool, or take the bus to work.
- Try to keep meetings on campus.
- Bring a bag lunch to prevent driving off campus in the middle of the day.
- Spread the word - encourage everyone in your workplace to save energy!
- Donate to the Humboldt greenhouse and get a few plants to green your office - not only will there be a reduction in dust, mold, and bacteria in the air, but moods will improve!
- Adopt a workplace energy efficiency policy to encourage employees to use energy conscientiously.
Waste Management and Reduction
- Utilize Reusable Office Supply Exchange (ROSE) for free office supplies, located on campus in House 53
- Donate surplus supplies to ROSE and reduce waste
- Host zero-waste events or meetings on campus by contacting Waste Reduction & Resource Awareness Program (WRRAP) at [email protected].
- Recycle e-waste at these locations on campus to prevent chemical leeching in landfills and groundwater
